Cait Ford is the @selfiexqueen and a drama queen to boot. In fact, she wants to be the first tattooed Broadway star. She’s a musican, an actress, and a model…no big deal. Although her hobbies seem glamorous, she insists her interests aren’t quite as fabulous. Cait is enthusiastic about feminism, the paranormal, animals, the outdoors, and American traditional tattoos.

How would you describe your personal style?
Gothic ’50s school girl or grungy pin up. Either/or.

What are the most worn items in your closet?
Black tights, black skirts. Black on black forever. I like to wear a skirt or dress everyday. Pants are for suckers. I also wear a lot of plaid and those cute high waisted skirts. I am built like a pinup; I have the same exact measurements as Marilyn Monroe. Dressing with a vintage flare is the most flattering on my body.

Tell us 5 random things about you.

  • I was born on February 29th.  I’ve only had 5 real birthdays.
  • I’ve never been drunk in my entire life, which is surprising because I work at a bar. I’ve never had a desire to drink alcohol.
  • I studied traditional ballet for 15 years. I was planning on following my mother’s footsteps and becoming a professional ballerina, however a sports injury inhibited my ability to ever dance en pointe again.
  • I have 4 dogs and 4 cats, all rescues. I’ve rescued so many strange animals in my life. At one point I was caring for a 9-ft python, maybe it was 7-ft. Nonetheless, it was bigger than me and could’ve eaten me.
  • I am obsessed with X Files; I have a big UFO tattooed on my thigh.

You’ve had quite a bit of success with your music, how did you get started?
I sang my entire life, and one day in elementary school it was discovered that I had this big voice living inside of me. I never stopped singing. I’ve won local talent shows and I’ve competed in huge nation-wide singing TV shows. TV is not for me, though.

I grew up thinking I wanted to be the next Mariah Carey, and though I have a voice similar that. I’d rather just make meaningful and beautiful music, the kind of music people fall asleep kissing each other to. I write contemporary folk music, heavily influenced by Regina Spektor, Joni Mitchell, Conor Oberst, and Justin Vernon.

I discovered that writing music is more important to me than winning a million dollar karaoke contest. All of that is a joke. I would die happy knowing one person was touched by a song I wrote so much, that they tattooed the lyrics on them. The same way I have four Regina Spektor tattoos.

I play a few instruments and I like to rely a lot on my classical vocal abilities in my music, harmonies on harmonies. My student debt to Berklee needs to be worth something right?

Do you have any projects currently in the works?
I am currently cast in my dream role in my dream show. I have been in a few professional productions this one being my second major role. It’s my favorite show, Spring Awakening. I am playing Ilse. Her part is stunning and meaningful and her songs are all gorgeous. I am honored that I will play her this upcoming February.

That and I am currently working with my first manager, we are putting together an album that I will release in 2014. Hopefully I’ll be touring as well. I have opened for amazing musicians in the past, such as Owen and Dads. I hope to play with those guys again, except this time I’ll actually have an album to sell at the show. We are going for a City and Colour meets Chelsea Wolfe meets newer Title Fight feel. My project is called Sea Witch. I have demos online at theseawitch.bandcamp.com.

If you could raid anyone’s closet, who would it be?
Yours. Dead serious, let me borrow those gradient Jeffery Campbells.

What’s something you’re looking forward to Instagraming right now?
I just bought glorious new hair extensions for the role I am playing. I feel so fabulous when I wear them; they really are a huge confidence booster. I’m excited to wear them tomorrow and take selfless all day. I am the Selfie Queen, after all.
